ScottOpus Productions presents A CD of the original Music of Kerry R. Scott MASS 2100. The full title of Mass 2100 is "Mass 2100 -- A Contemporary Musical Setting of the Roman Catholic Mass for Young People". The work was conceived as a celebration (rather than a performance) of the Catholic Mass and thus needed to be celebrated by a Priest or a Priest and a Cantor. All parts, however small were to be set to music. This necessitated that the Priest celebrating the Mass was a singer of some reasonable facility. The work is scored for large forces including Piano, Organ and Harpsichord as well as a Folk group, Large and Chamber Choir and Brass Ensemble. In addition there are solo roles for Flute, Violin, Clarinet and Timpani; with lesser parts for Double Bass, Electric Keyboard and Drum Sets. The work was written for the students and staff of the Convent of Our Lady, St. Leonards-on-sea, East Sussex, UK. The work was first performed on Friday June 16th 1989 at 7:30 p.m. in the school chapel. The forces outlined below were utilized in this performance and it is this performance that was recorded and included on the CD. Unfortunately the Convent of Our Lady is now closed and the school has been demolished. The composer, therefore, offers this recording as a tribute to all those performers who made this recording and performance possible: and to those that made the Convent of Our Lady an educational "safe harbor"; thus facilitating so many to flourish and realize their potential to the fullest extent.
PART I
The First part of this CD is an arrangement of parts of Mass 2100 as an orchestral Suite. It should be noted that no effort has been made to adhere to the order the parts of the mass as they appear in the mass form, but rather rely on the musical aspects to determine the order of appearance. The orchestra used in this work is expanded to include extended Strings, Solo Piano, Organ and Harpsichord; as well as antiphonal Bells, Celesta and Harp. It is envisaged that this suite could be used as a series of preludes for a performance or celebration of the Mass itself, but of course not with the forces represented here. It should be noted that this work represents a "MIDI" Orchestra (or perhaps a "virtual Orchestra"). There are no "live" or "real" performers, thus certain adjustments were necessary in order to make the realization appear as if a live performance was actually taking place and being recorded.

PART II
The second part of this CD is an analog recording, recorded by the composer, of the premier performance of Mass 2100. The Analog master tape was re-mixed by John Aitchison of Martlett Recording, Hastings, UK. and was restored, remixed and transferred to disc by ScottOpus Productions. The work is a large scale complete musical setting of the Vernacular Catholic Mass form. Some small portions of the Mass are omitted in this performance as they are the particular portions that can only to be articulated by a Priest. This rendition was celebrated by a cantor and was presented as a performance rather than a true celebration of the Mass. Thus the reasons for the omission. The true design of the composer is that of celebration rather than a performance. Any instrumentation can be used with any size choir. Further the musical setting of any section can be omitted with that particular section being said rather than sung.
