Scherzo No.1 for Solo Baritone Horn, Brass Quintet and Timpani was written by Kerry R. Scott for Louis Gerolami and performed for the first time March 31, 1977 at 8:00 p.m. in Ives Concert Hall, Danbury Ct. USA. TRSMscherzoprogram.jpg - 455692 BytesThis performance was part of Mr L. Gerolami's Senior Recital while at Western Connecticut State College.The Program was shared with Judith Stone (Clarinet) and included compositions featuring both the Clarinet and the Baritone Horn. A copy of the program can be seen to the right.

TRSM_louconducting_07302006.jpg - 455692 BytesAt the time of the first performance, Mr Gerolami was a member of the Tudor Rose Brass Ensemble playing the Baritone Horn, as well as a member of the Tudor Rose Brass Quintet and Chairman of the Tudor Rose School of Music Board of Directors. Mr Gerolami also functioned as Associate Conductor of the Tudor Rose Brass Ensemble.TRSM_louconductinga_07302006.jpg - 455692 Bytes He went on to head the music department at Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield NY.

This work was later revised and re-orchestrated by the composer for Woodwind Ensemble with the solo part originally written for the Baritone Horn transcribed for the Bass Clarinet. It was also combined with Scherzo No.2 written for Charles Austin the Tuba performer in the Tudor Rose School of Music Brass Ensemble. Recordings of the revised works can be found on the CD's Brandy Butter, Brass and Bells and The Old, The New, and an Eclectic Medley.

TWO SCHERZOS FOR BRASS AND WOODWIND.

COMPOSITION NAME:- Two Scherzos for Brass and Woodwind. Arranged from the original scored for 2 Trumpets, French Horn, Baritone Horn, Trombone and Tuba. This edition is reworked to feature the Bass Clarinet and utilizes a large Woodwind and Brass ensemble.
COMPOSITION DATE:- 2004 Original versions written in 1976.
MEDIUM:- Bass Clarinet and woodwind and brass ensemble/Digital Electronic Music
INSTRUMENTATION:- Bass Clarinet and woodwind and brass ensemble/Digitally realized (MIDI).

A complete study score is available for download (PDF file format) as part of the ScottOpus online recording and music library. This is the score of the two Scherzos transcribed by the composer in 2004 for Bass Clarinet and Woodwind Ensemble. Due to technical limitations the score has been divided into 7 sections each of 15 pages. The measures are, however, numbered for the readers convenience.
