ScottOpus Productions is pleased to introduce the following works of Kenneth R. Lindner Jr.:-
Discourses For Brass Quintet was written in 1992. The work was premiered by Lyric Brass on November 18th 1993 in the Chris Knutzen Hall part of the Pacific Lutheran University. The composer and his wife Kathy (see Kathy's Theme) were in attendance at the premier and report that the performance was well executed and received well.
The work itself is divided into four movements subtitled "Gallop", "March and Scherzo", "Blues" and "Romp". Further each movement features one instrument contained in the Brass Quintet, namely Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone and Tuba respectively. Worthy of particular mention is the third movement "Blues" with the featured instrument the Trombone. This movement is a particularly good example of the inclusion of the Blues style into what is usually considered a classical format: Even with the trombone being the composer's main performing medium, this movement stands out as demonstrating Mr. Lindners considerable imagination and skill in writing for these instruments and a consummate understanding of what some may consider an esoteric music form.
