ScottOpus Productions is pleased to introduce the following works of Kenneth R. Lindner Jr.:-
Toccata For Brass Quartet and Organ was written in 1982 and is dedicated to Charles M. Ruggles. The score is inscribed in the dedication characterizing Charles M. Ruggles as “an Organist with Guts”. The work is scored for Brass Quartet (Two Trumpets and Two Trombones) and Organ.
The composer characterizes this work as a “Rabble Rouser” harkening back to the “Widor” style of toccata writing but with the inclusion of a Brass Quartet. Performance was contemplated by the composer within a church setting at an organ/brass concert and is indeed one of the composers favorite compositions.
The computer rendition of this work does not in any way do it justice. The writing for organ is striking and although obviously similar to that of Widor has an individuality of its own. The inclusion of a brass quartet makes this work a great candidate for a position on a recital dedicated to a virtuoso organist playing a great romantic organ.
