ScottOpus Productions is pleased to introduce its fourth CD.

MASS 2100.
Kerry R. Scott (1949 - )

This CD is an analog recording, recorded by the composer, of the premier performance of Mass 2100. The master tape was remixed by John Aitchison of Martlett Recording and was transfered to disc by Opus Productions. The work is a large scale complete musical setting of the Vernacular Catholic Mass form. Some small portions of the Mass are omitted in this performance as they are the particular portions that are only to be articulated by a Priest. This rendition was celebrated by a cantor and was presented as a performance rather than a true celebration of the Mass. Thus the reasons for the omission. The true design of the composer is that of celebration rather than a performance. Any instrumentation can be used with any size choir. Further the musical setting of any section can be ommitted with that particular section being said rather than sung. The full performance represented here is scored and performed as follows:-

Full Chorus of 300 - Convent of Our Lady School, St.Leonards-on-sea Hastings U.K.

Printed Scores are available upon request to ScottOpus Productions.

TRACK 1.1 - 1.2 Introductory Rites

TRACK 1.1 - Entrance Procession and Song

A short fanfare scored for Brass and Tympani lead directly to the opening song or Hymn. This is a song of joy and thanksgiving accompanied by Tympani and Brass. The words of this and the other hymns (songs) in this composition were all written by the composer.

A responsorial setting between the chorus and congregation and the Celebrant with accompaniment.

TRACK 1.5 - Kyrie

Of note should be the styles of Rock, atonal harmonies and modal tonalities that occur consecutively and the joyous approach to the concept of being absolved of sin.

TRACK 1.6 - Gloria

This setting uses the chorus and Celebrant accompanied by timpani and tuned timbales. It should be noted that the accompaniment is performed by one player playing 4 individual timpani and 4individuall tuned timbales. The total of eight drums were tuned to a diatonic scale thus giving the drums a complete diatonic melodic compass of an octave.

TRACK 1.7 - Opening Prayer

The Opening Prayer is scored for solo flute solo Violin and Harpsichord Continuo. The duet-like melody is shared by the violin and Flute interspersed by the recitative of the Prayer itself accompanied by the Harpsichord.

TRACK 1.8 - 1.14 Liturgy of the Word

TRACK 1.8 - First Reading

This is a strophic version of this Old Testament reading with full ensemble accompaniment of the full chorus.

TRACK 1.9 - Response

The traditional Response sung by the celebrant.

TRACK 1.10 - Responsorial Psalm

The Response of this Psalm setting is an alleluia set as a four part canon. In this performance each voice of the canon is performed by the various different choirs listed above. The Psalm itself is sound by the celebrant over an organ continuo aaccompaniment.
