ScottOpus PRODUCTIONS
ScottOpus Productions is pleased to introduce its second CD.
RATTLE AND RHYME.
Kerry R. Scott (1949 - )
This CD is a second music feast although this CD has children in mind. It should be noted, however, that this CD is equally applicable and enjoyable by adults especially those with a sound palate that appreciates simple and succinct timbres and melodic and harmonic content. Most of this disc is meant as a relaxation tape whereby one can float away in a bucolic environment where simplicity engenders relaxation thus pacifying stress.
TRACK 1. 2. AND 3. - CHILDREN'S SUITE
(It should be noted that the three following movements are composed and realized with the use of the computer.)
TRACK 1. - BAROQUE INTRADA
In this composition an effort has been made to replicate the sound of ancient instruments. "Virtual" Flutes, String instruments and Trumpets are featured as well as the more contemporary Electric Bass Guitar. This Baroque instrumentation is supported by Baroque harmonies and melody structure. The form is the traditional Intrada (extended binary) form thus rendering the composition as (perhaps) a "virtual" Baroque musical experience.

TRACK 2. - NOCTURNE
A Lullaby of sorts, this composition endeavors to demonstrate that computer generated and realized compositions can evoke and include sentiment within the context of the work. Simple harmonic and melodic structures are used as well as the Ternary Form to outline the composition. "Virtual"Instrumentation includes the use of contemporary instruments such as the Electric Bass Guitar, Electric Piano and Synthesizer. It should be noted that the first edition of this composition was written in 1968 and dedicated to the children (Audrey, Valerie Carey and Randy) of the composer's Host Family, Frank and Janet Smith, while he was a student at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin Ohio.

TRACK 3. - PINOCOHIO'S NOSE
This composition is a Program piece in the form of a Fantasy generally following the story of the Puppet Pinocohio and his growing nose. This work makes use of a number of "virtual" traditional instruments as well as "new" sounds created on the computer to represent the Fantasy or dreamlike aspects of the story. All of the Children's Suite, while designed for children, can be equally well appreciated by adults.

THREE CANONS
(It should be noted that the three following movements are composed and realized with the use of the computer.)
TRACK 4. - THREE CANONS
The Introduction section of this composition States the three themes of the three canons in a fugal form. All three canons can be sounded together (twelve part counterpoint) or individually (four part counterpoint) as a cannon on its own. This work was written as three Alleluia cannons for the composers neice and two nephews. Each canon can be sung as a four part canon either separately or together. If performed together it is recommended by the composer that the four choirs performing the canons be placed in antiphonal format.
TRACK 5. - CANNONS 1.2.3.
This section of Canons 1.2.3. is realized by "virtual instruments" playing each canon in four parts at the same time. Each canons entrance is staggered as is each voice of each canon. It should be noted that many voices are transposed an octave in either direction to allow for texture control as well as clarity of line. It may be of interest to some readers that the four canons were digitally realized separately and then mixed directly onto the master disc - giving testament to the accuracy of computer generation and realization of music.

BUCOLIC LULLABY
(This work is subtitled - Fantasy on "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and is composed and realized using the digital Keyboard.)
TRACK 6. - BUCOLIC LULLABY
From a practical point of view this work can be left on after putting a child to bed and use this work to lull the child to sleep - hence the work's name. On a more musical level this work can be divided into four sections with a continuing ostinato of a "virtual beach". The first section is meant to represent the soothing sounds of "virtual wind chimes" hung perhaps on a Palm tree on this virtual beach. The second section features a "virtual harpsichord" playing a series of variations on "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in the minor key. The third section is again variations on "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" but this time with a "virtual Harp" and in the major key. The fourth and final section returns to the "Virtual Wind Chimes" but this time is overlayed with a monophonic rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" on "virtual Strings". The work ends by returning to the "virtual Beach" with the sounds of the "virtual Surf" fading into the distance.
