A Prelude for Pentecost Sunday was first performed on Pentecost Sunday 1979 on Sunday June 3rd as a Prelude for the 11:00 service at St. Stephen's Church, Ridgefield Ct. The composer wrote the following concerning the work which was printed on the service sheet as a way of explanation.

"A Prelude for Pentecost Sunday" is dedicated to Saint Stephen's Church and the Saint Stephen's Church Junior Choir. This work represents two distinct facets of the disciples' realizations of the Holy Spirit. Firstly that of rejoicing and the singing of praises to God for the understanding of the significance of the Holy Spirit. Secondly, the fear and awe associated with the mysticism of the appearance of the Holy Spirit. The two aspect are represented by Bells, Trumpets and Organ and electronic music respectively.
The first part of the work is atonal in nature; that is, without tonal center or "not in a key". The second uses sounds electronically produced to represent the mysticism associated with Pentecost.
The work closes eith a new harmonization of the hymn "All People That on Earth do Dwell", with added bells and trumpets thus signifying man's singing of the praises to God for His gift of Salvation.

Although the score is available directly from the composer, there is no recording available and the tape of the electronic sounds is missing.
