TOPIC:- The Holy Trinity by Kerry R. Scott
Webster's Dictionary defines the word "Trinity" as "state of being threefold; the unity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit as three persons in one godhead; any union of three in one; triad". The word itself is of Latin abstraction literally meaning a "three-ness". The word itself does not appear in the Bible at all, but most Christians believe the concept of "three persons in one godhead" is inferred throughout both the Old and New Testaments. A good example of one such instance is the Gospel of John, chapter 17, verses 20 through 23.
Most of the modern Christian Liturgies emphasize the Trinity as indicated above but also point out that the complete understanding of God is not possible. It is through this incomplete comprehension that "Faith" is introduced and the "mystic" concepts of some Christian religions are born. For most Christians the concept of The Trinity is introduced at Baptism where they are baptized "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19).
Throughout the ages there has been constant controversy on the interpretation of the "Trinity". Interpretations range from those that believe that the Father, Son and Spirit exist simultaneously, each the same complete God (the Trinitarian position); to those that believe the Father, Son and Spirit are simply different roles or manifistations the God Almighty (the anti-trinitarian position). The controversy continues to this day, however from all this controversy a doctrine of the Trinity has emerged and it is now generally accepted that the Trinity is symbolic of both a division and a unity.
The majority of Christian believe the Trinity to be central to the Christian Faith. By definition this requires that the Christian fully believe in a symbolic paradox of a God that is both divided and united. Further this requires that the Christian must believe in a concept that is not fully understandable and mystic in nature. The Christian calls this "Faith"
Composer Kerry R. Scott has written a number of music compositions that utilize various Liturgies as the basis of the works. In particular, with respect to this topic he has written a Multi-Media Composition called "Trinity"
